My Story
I am the youngest of eight children. My father was a painter, and my mother worked as a waitress. We grew up in poverty — sometimes dumpster diving for day-old bread, meat, and milk that might still be good. This was before businesses began locking dumpsters or destroying food that was still potentially edible. But I digress.
In high school, I was placed in a vocational program because I was told I wasn’t capable of handling higher academic studies. Later, I earned my GED. A friend encouraged me to take the next step and helped me begin college. I worked nights as a bartender while attending classes during the day. Bartending allowed me to pay for an apartment, a car, and my tuition.
After graduating, I started my career as a programmer. Years later, after a long and fulfilling career, I felt a growing desire to give back — to be a voice for people who often felt unheard. That calling led me to attend law school part-time at night. I eventually earned my law degree, passed the bar, and began helping people navigate their legal challenges.
Now that I’m retired, using my law degree to help others is what I dedicate myself to fully. It’s my way of giving back and making sure the path I struggled to walk might be a little easier for someone else.
